Traditional Methods in the Workshop

Graham Duncalf in his workshop Decorativecarving with the chisel
Graham makes the furniture by hand in a compact, but well-equipped workshop at Rose Cottage. You will probably see him if you visit the showroom. At most times, there are Oak tree butts stacked in the yard to season before it is used for furniture making. While electric tools might be used in the initial working of the wood, the finishing of joints and surface carving are done by hand, using time-honoured skills acquired over years of experience. These include intricate carving and adzing to produce the traditional finish on such items as chair backs and table tops.
